Daniel Hole - Featured Artist - Gallery On Glassell

Daniel Hole

Daniel Hole expertly captures the spirit of the contemporary west. As the lead artist that produced the giant Marlboro billboards, he was part of the iconography of the new American West.

Hole graduated with a B.A. in 1964 from Central Michigan University and a M.F.A. in 1966 from Bowling Green University, Ohio. The family moved to Palm Desert in 1977 and while teaching al College of the Desert, he began to work on the billboards that crossed America’s roads.

Though he still paints on large canvasses, he is shifting to smaller formats. His subjects are tightly rendered and the backgrounds are very loose, enhancing the illusion of motion.
