The Gallery On Glassell launches a new event this month, Churches, Crosses and Cathedrals, Sat., Aug. 14, 6-9 p.m. Beyond the iconography of Christianity; Churches, Crosses and Cathedrals celebrates the power of vision, faith and hard work.

The paintings and accessories that comprise the show capture the rich Spanish Colonial heritage of Califor-nia, the American Southwest and Latin America. This style has a rich history influenced by visionaries from throughout the Mediterranean region and the middle east. It is a design vernacular that reminds us of Califor-nia’s early history while celebrating
the vision of our contemporary artists.

Ernest Lacy captures majestic Catholic churches of Mexico in his paintings. Chris Maya, has produced santos and woodblock prints of New Mexico churches that add to the home alter or serve as artistic accents for any room in the house.

Marjorie Taylor has finished paintings of the inside and outside of Notre Dame in Paris and Hyatt Moore has painted churches in California and Latin America. We will have new paintings by Linda Brown of California missions and new works of decorative and functional iron by designer Jan Barboglio.

Along with paintings that fit the theme, we’ll have dozens of crosses, religious icons and gourmet foods from Spain, California, Italy and France.

We hope you can join us.

Jim Hathcock
